Born Deven Lavale Purifoy On February 27th 1983 In San Bernardino California; the 10th of 14 children. His father was a Pastor and his mother is a great gospel singer. Mr.Hollywood started playing the drums at 9 yrs of age, at 13 he was given his very 1st drum set by a member of the Legendary Gap Band. At 13 Deven became California’s State drummer in his church congregation. During his freshman year at Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley CA Deven joined the marching band. Which went on to win several Championships.
Deven “Mr.Hollywood” Powers is currently the Host of The LA Live Film Festival 2018, 2019, 2020, & 2021 . He’s also The Founder & CEO of Black Film Festival Los Angeles, Discover My Music Radio, Celebrity Newz Tv Hollywood and The Blackcellence Awards. When it comes to Hollywood Deven is living up to it, you can catch Mr.Hollywood on the cover on the latest cover of Fashion GXD Magazine. When Deven’s not gracing the cover of magazines, or hosting Red-carpets he’s hosting “The Mr.Hollywood TV Show” airing on At&t U-Verse ch 99, Charter Spectrum Ch.32 & . Mr Hollywood is becoming a voice.
FGM: Its an honor to sit down with you all. Tell us a little about your brand and how you've come to this vastly successful peek in your career .
Answer: Well i got my start on NBC News Radio 102.3fm and 106.5 fm back in 2017 as the host of the World Wide mixed radio show. later that year i got my big break in the hit play Silent Tears produced by Sharron Lewis from the NAACP
FGM: Who are the clients/what are the projects that you most enjoy working on?
Answer: i’m the CEO and founder of the MR & Ms Hollywood Magazine I’ve worked with pro soccer play Claude Dielna & Dr Bazzi just to name a few. Well i love acting i’m currently producing and staring in the feature film The Bad Boyz of Hollywood set to release later this year. i’m also currently working on a Hip Hop and R&B album.
FGM: How do you feel you make a difference in the world?
Answer: My goal is to inspire others. ive had all of the odds stacked against me and i made it out. ive experienced a long stint of incarcerated that made me a better person. i grow up in the church dirt poor and all i had was God, my family, and big dreams. im 10th of 14 children im coming from nothing. My ultimate goal is to inspire people who are homeless living on the streets and people who are incarcerated im that example that if i can make it from living on the streets and being incarcerated you to can become a successful entrepreneur, actor,tv host, model etc.
FGM: Tell us about a time when you showed determination to continue as an entrepreneur
Answer: When i firsted started the The Black Film Festival Los Angeles i had some difficulty raising money i soon developed ways to to fund the film festival so that i could give back to the community by granting film maker the opportunity to be feature on the big screen at la live regal cinemas at our 300 seat theater
FGM: Give me the three best qualities of your brand
Answer: Exposure, Success, Growth
FGM: Give me an example of when you worked irregular hours?
Answer: That’s a regular for me i go off of only 4 hours of sleep on a nightly bases most of my business associates are international. i have web designers, marketing and promotion associates in 9 different time zones in 9 different countries working my bighouse la brands. i have to continue to lead my team and direct them on what to do.. when most people are sleep im up working making things happen for all of my brands.
FGM: Being a entrepreneur is a 24/7 job, how did you get ready for that?
Answer: well it starts with lots of prayer and meditation. you have to be in great condition mentally physically and spiritually. you also have to expect the unexpected. in business everyday,week and month is different financially.
FGM: How did you acquire the ability to work under pressure to beat meet deadlines as a entrepreneur ?
Answer: i have an amazing ability to muli task and do several jobs at onces. i own more than 7 different successful brands. it comes down to time management and scheduling if you fail to plan you plan to fail. im really big on just doing it like nike.
FGM: What is your favorite inspirational point, place, to develop new brand developments?
Answer: my motivation is the out doors i love to go outside sit in silence and be inspired i also love to watch motivation self help videos on youtube.im also big on reading books like the 48 laws of power, how to win friends and influence people just to name a few.
FGM: Which current public figure, are you inspired by or appreciate the most?
Answer: Denzel Washington because he keeps God and family 1st he is the definition of class and a good man all we do is hear good about him.
FGM: How do you handle stress ?
Answer: easy through prayer and meditation i ask God to help me. and i like to work out and it helps me free my self from anxiety and stress
FGM: What are the three qualities you feel an entrepreneur must have ?
Answer: Leadership, Fearlessness and Courage because a true Entrepreneur is a risk-taker and a profit maker, thirdly you have to be ambitious and passionate about the brands you choose to establish
FGM: Where do you see your business in 10 years ?How do you plan to get there ?
Answer: i see my brands as some of the biggest in the world. i plan to get there by doing what i’ve always been doing and that’s through consistency hard work determination and constantly evolving the brands the only thing that remains the same is change you have to change with the time for example my space died out and Facebook took over as a great means to promote your brand
