Tammi: This has been a long time coming. Me and these ladies have quite a bit of history and they are just enthusiastic about organic hair care and healthy hair just as much as I am.

Jennifer: This has been a passion of mine since a little girl. I’m all about healthy hair so to team up with ladies who are like minded ppl, we created a product filled with love and passion

L.Quinn: We are so excited about Hair Luxury Company! We are able to provide luxurious hair products to everyone. Moisturizing products that promote length retention. Our products truly work on all hair types from natural to relaxed to children to men and women.

FGM: Who are the clients/what are the projects that you most enjoy working on?

Answer:

Tammi: We have various reality stars and musicians we are interested and looking forward to working with as brand ambassadors in the works. Some popular YouTubers that reviewed our products as well.

Jennifer: we have YouTubers and a few well known people in the industry, but I mostly enjoy working/helping on everyday people Strengthen and grow their hair

L.Quinn:  Our favorite clients are our families, friends and new friends that we have met on this journey. They give us the honest reviews and are truly amazed by the growth they see with consistently using our products. The best projects were formulating our products, especially our leave-in conditioner and anti-itch mega growth oil. Excited about our new products coming soon!

FGM: How do you feel you make a difference in the world?

Answer:

TAMMI: I went to Indian University where the KKK originated. I was the 5th African American to get my PhD in Microbiology in my program and that was in 2010. Not being confined by my existence and creating my own path and influencing others to do it as well is my way of continuing to make black history. I hope that our products will show that knowing the science behind hair growth and providing that luxury to you in a bottle is amazing.

Jennifer: Coming from Jackson, Mississippi to becoming one of the biggest hair care lines in the world, I feel like it is big in itself.

L.Quinn: Making a difference day by day. So many people have been shocked and supportive of us starting a natural hair product business. When they see that we can do it, they are inspired also. And it feels good promoting products created and formulated by us and for us. Truly understanding the science behind hair growth and able to provide it to everyone is making a positive difference in hair care and the world.

FGM: Tell us about a time when you showed determination to continue as an entrepreneur

Answer:

TAMMI: L. Quinn and I had a business before this one. It was a boutique. We both love fashion and embrace it in our own creative ways. Our boutique was around 3-4 beauty salons and we saw how a lot of women were natural but would spend hundreds of dollars to wear protective styles and using hair products that would continue to break their hair rather than moisturize and hydrate the hair and follicles, including myself. We started making my own oils, shampoos, and mask that eventually lead to working with rice, apple cider vinegar, and essential oils and its proteins. Using them on ourselves as a guinea pig. We were determined to bottle them and need a veteran stylist opinion. That’s when we had our beautician consultant Jennifer active become involved and now 1/3 of the brand. She is beneficial and essential of our clientele and growth and believes in the products. I’m glad we started a new business as a 100% African American business from the manufacture to the distribution team. We were determined and we got it done. 6 years later we here.

Jennifer: 9 years ago, I started a jewelry line called Vintage Couture. It did well but it wasn’t my passion. A few years ago, my daughter got a ringworm in the crown of her head and lost a large amount of hair; I went crazy trying to do everything in my power to grow her hair back. I started experimenting on natural/organic oils daily to grow her hair back. Tammi came to me at the right time not knowing what I was doing on my own.  Everything was a GO for me ever since

L.Quinn: Starting Hair Luxury! When Tammi first approached me about teaming up to start the business, so many scenarios came to mind. I prayed about being a part of the business and was happy to go all in. I knew this would require determination especially since there are numerous natural hair care companies since this amazing wave of African-American women going natural and looking for truly natural products to take care of their hair. Figuring out all the details from logo and label design to shipping labels/methods required attention to detail and personal customer service. This process is not for the faint at heart and I still get excited about what is to come with the business.

FGM: Give me the three best qualities of your brand

Answer:

TAMMI: ORGANIC, VEGAN FRIENDLY, and REALLY WORKS by penetrating the hair follicles.

Jennifer: natural/organic ingredients, REALLY WORKS, leaves hair looking and feeling amazing

L.Quinn: Moisture, Growth, and Length Retention!

FGM: Give me an example of when you worked irregular hours?

Answer:

TAMMI: Every day. Especially when we are preparing for an event.

Jennifer: every day we are working on building and growing our brand, day and night.

L.Quinn: Quite a bit, when we have multiple orders and preparing for events. Currently still working a full-time job so working on Hair Luxury after regular work hours is constant. And then sometimes ideas pop up late at night or at random times throughout the day so always working on Hair Luxury Company.

FGM: Being an entrepreneur is a 24/7 job, how did you get ready for that?

Answer:

TAMMI: I went to graduate school and having grants teach you a lot about a budget and buying supplies and setting small goals which lead to bigger goals. I didn’t realize bring in graduate school and a postdoctoral position I was really getting training on running a business, running a laboratory has its similarities. That’s how I feel I prepared for it.

Jennifer: I’ve. Been an entrepreneur majority of my life but living with big entrepreneur I got to see and learn everything

L.Quinn: Faith, Determination, and Passion. When you have God and passion, work doesn't seem like work. You enjoy all that comes even the challenges because that make the company better for the future.

FGM: How did you acquire the ability to work under pressure to beat meet deadlines as an entrepreneur?

Answer:

TAMMI: I think going to graduate school has helped me to do this as well and being a professor has helped me prioritize some assignments over others to learn how to work under pressure. Always have a backup plan in case something doesn’t work out.

Jennifer: I learned in school don’t wait until the last minute to start on big projects, I hate rushing and doing last-minute things. This is my life, my career, my passion I wouldn’t want to jeopardize it by being a procrastinator.

L.Quinn: We acquire that ability everyday through our lives. We have other obligations and there is always a deadline to meet, at work, with family, even with planning fun things like vacations. The ability to work under pressure is cultivated even more with being an entrepreneur through website overview, new product launches and of course vendor events.

FGM: What is your favorite inspirational point, place, to develop new brand developments?

Answer:

TAMMI: I like observing the market and the niche and I use YouTube and different naturalistas websites for reference as well as my kids and myself to help become inspirational about my reduction development.

Jennifer: stay on top of the new trends by going to vendor events and watching social media influencers

L.Quinn: For me that is nature; a nice walk outside, a hike or being near water is always inspiration.

FGM: Which current public figure, are you inspired by or appreciate the most?

Answer:

TAMMI: I’m inspired by so many. Diddy, JLO, JAYZ, Will Smith, Rick Ross, Bryan Allen, 50 Cent, and Courtney Adele Ross has a hair company too. I love how they all transition/ ventured from one career into corporate America.

Jennifer: I love how a lot of actresses with beautiful tresses are starting their own natural hair care line as well like Taraji P. Henson and Trace Ellis Ross

L.Quinn: Mine isn't just one person if would be all African-American women! From the ones who are superheroes every day to other entrepreneurs, I am inspired at how we ascend through everything and our stories, but since we are talking current public figure it would definitely be TeTe First Lady Michelle Obama.

How do you handle stress?

Answer:

TAMMI: I workout, listen to gospel upbeat hip hop music, shop, and consume myself with work and the brand.

Jennifer: pray every day when I’m stressed or happy but just a little more prayers when I’m stressed lol...workout 5days a week and stay working on hair luxury brand. If I’m too busy working, I wouldn’t be worried right?

L.Quinn: Self-care and time alone. Most of my self-care methods require alone time, it can be journaling about a stressful event or working out/doing yoga

FGM: What are the three qualities you feel an entrepreneur must have?

Answer:

Tammi: TIME MANAGEMENT, organized, and open to new ways of handling business.

Jennifer: passion for their brands, know that you can’t do it alone and don’t know everything so it’s ok to get help, organization

L.Quinn: Self-awareness, Resiliency, and Lifetime Learner

FGM:  Where do you see your business in 10 years? How do you plan to get there?

Answer:

TAMMI: We will be a household name in beauty salons and have our Body Luxury Brand out with scented lotion, body wash, candles, and creams. We plan to get there by preserving through all the obstacles networking and starting business partnerships and maintaining consistency’s day innovation with our products.

L.Quinn: A major brand in natural hair care in the world! A leader in using natural products to truly help not just women but children and me to be more informed on how to take care of our hair and reach whatever hair goals one has. We plan to get there by staying true to our products and being consistent, just like we have to be about our hair care routines.

FGM: It was a pleasure speaking with you thank you for joining us

TAMMI: Anytime, and thanks for taking time out to speak with us at Hair Luxury Company.
