Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) :  Long story short a gem grew from my struggle. I was in a really bad car accident and I became extremely depressed and let myself go. My hair was an entire mess so, I big chopped out of convenience and started making my own hair and skincare products since it was cheaper and I couldn’t afford my holy grails any longer. In the end it became my outlet.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : Networking is key. Passion and drive attracts me to others.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to other children  who want to become entrepreneurs?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : Find what it is your passionate about it, develop a plan and execute it. Don’t let anyone discourage you. Those who usually say you can’t are the ones who never tried to begin with!

Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : Not be afraid to ask for help. I have an issue with asking for help due to not wanting to depend on others. I’d rather research and figure things out on my own. It’s the teacher in me lol

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur ?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : Top three skills :

  1. Be organized and plan accordingly, the more things you have mapped out the easier things will flow.

  2. Roll with the punches, there are always hiccups in business so be prepared and don’t let it stress you out!

  3. Always remain positive, in doing so you’ll always be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel when encountering the hiccups mentioned above.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : Letting every little thing stress me out has caused me to want to quit time and time again. I had to remember that this gift didn’t come out of nowhere. This was a gift the Lord brought out of me at a time when I was in between blessings, and if  I wasn’t capable he wouldn’t have put it in the atmosphere..

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : I’m never not working. Being a teacher is a lifestyle and so is being an entrepreneur. I literally create new recipes and send out marketing emails during my preps and lunch breaks at work and create inventory on my free nights and weekends. Thankfully I’ve enlisted the help of a friend, Quaniyah, to run my social media platforms so, that’s one less thing for me to stress over. I
honestly can’t put  number on it.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : About 3 days a week from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. I’m at the gym or at least I try to be. From 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. I’m Ms. Alexander the 3rd grade teacher and from 5:00 p.m. till whatever time I fall asleep I’m Alesia/Muvaaa the CEO of Lotus By Alesia. I fit family, friend and me time in there as well, usually on the weekends.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : My family life has been affected much. My little cousin love helping me especially when it comes to making bath bombs. I’ve actually inspired her to  create her own bath fizzie business. Seeing her drive has pushed me to begin the creation of a kiddie korner on my site. It’s a section with products created by kids for kids.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : Knowing that someone is watching me motivates me. Knowing that I’ve inspired my friends and family to become entrepreneurs and share their gifts with the world motivates me. Knowing that my customers are loyal and will email me, even when I’ve stopped production for months, and check on my well-being before asking for a special order (lol) motivates me.

Fashion Gxd Magazine: How do you generate new ideas?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : I pretty much look at what is popular on the market and what ingredients are being used. I poll my customers and I ask them for suggestions as well. Their input means a great deal to me and knowing that they have some say on production excites them.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) : In the beginning I made a great deal of sacrifice when it came to my personal life. I couldn’t always be where everyone wanted me to and because of that I had to sever a few friendships. In the end the sacrifices were worth it because I gained so much more.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?

Lotus By Alesia ( CEO) :: In ten years I see my myself being a fulltime entrepreneur. I want to open up a chain of Lotus Natural Hair Salons & Spas. I also want to start a nonprofit (through my business) that assists young woman in getting their entrepreneurial wings and their businesses up and running. There’s a lot more that I want to do but somethings need to be kept quiet. Long story short, I’m extremely excited for myself and the future of my business.
