Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?
Queen Maven CEO: Well I begun entrepreneurship initially as an mac cosmetics vendor some years back & was looking to get a new fresh start in a different market. After careful research, I noticed my city lacked blacked owned sunglass companies. For me, sunglasses is a must living in the sunshine state. I also wanted to offer high end stylish designs to accompany any occasion. Not long after careful planning Queen Maven was hatched.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?
Queen Maven CEO: Number 1 thing I look for is trustworthy character. Do you jump out to me as a person or company that keeps its word and it can be deemed reliable? Number 2 , how can Queen Maven benefit to & from the prospective partnership? Last but not least, what are your core ethics?
Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to other adults who want to become entrepreneurs?
Queen Maven CEO: Never Give Up, Set Goals, Achieve Them & Continue to Strive for New
Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
Queen Maven CEO: I would have thought to invest more into my own brand younger, but you live & learn. I can truly say I value my past unfortunate endeavors because they helped mold me into who I am now.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur ?
Queen Maven CEO: : Exceptional Customer Service, Eyes forward for advancement, & a lot of devotion and dedication
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
Queen Maven CEO: My biggest failure would be going out of business for lack of marketing skills. When I had my cosmetic boutique 5 years ago, I couldn’t turn enough profit due to the lack of exposure. Not to mention knowing the first way to go about getting it. With trial and error & school I now am worry free in that department. I’ve learned to network & market my brand uniquely as it is.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?
Queen Maven CEO: My work day is anywhere between 8-10 hours long.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?
Queen Maven CEO: I have to create a lot of promo & ad material. So most of my day consist of creating social media material to market. I have to check inventory & shipping supplies daily to ensure proper stock. I pack orders & deliveries for daily runs and drop offs. I also have to update the online boutique & manage social sight insights. I handle the customer support inquiries and or orders. I pretty much run all aspects of the business.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?
Queen Maven CEO: I was already a work from home mom, so it was a relatively easy adjustment. I just have to make sure I stick as closely as possible to my natural flow. Most high, Family, then business friends are like family to me so that’s why I didn’t list it.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?
Queen Maven CEO: : Being able to help others & myself gain financial independence. I also dream of contributing to the recirculation of the black dollar within our communities.
Fashion Gxd Magazine: How do you generate new ideas?
Queen Maven CEO: Im a very Artsy individual naturally. I get a lot of inspiration from random thoughts or raw uncut life event’s.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
Queen Maven CEO: I’ve had to cut out corporate America from my schedule. Me working full time plus being a full time mom didn’t leave time to properly run my business. So I saved up some money to start my business off, & also constant support of my fiancé has been my two biggest helps. Now I have time to grind & build my brand while being able to juggle mommyhood and running a boutique.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?
Queen Maven CEO: In 10 years I see Queen Maven expanded into a one stop shop style boutique. Offering Apparel, Accessories, & more at reasonable pricing. I want Queen Maven to be a fashionable quality boutique, but at a reasonable cost. I see myself a homeowner & financial coach. I want to be able to inspire others to break free and stay independent. In 20 years I would love to have a community project formed to help young black adults gain independence through home ownership early. Also have Queen Maven transitioning into an manufacturing warehouse for wholesale bulk purchasing. Offer a variety in a box for future entrepreneurs. Give the advantage of starting out with a mixture and not having the stress of outsourcing multiple vendors.
