This month we sat down with the innovative brand taking over the internet “One Perfect Baby & Maternity “. One perfect baby and Maternity is a baby Boutique owned by Ashley Thompkins. It was launched in 2017. They sell majority of the items a mother would need to set up the perfect nursery for her perfect baby. They have items such as, Chandeliers, Crib bumpers, Bean bag chairs and many more items. Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO): The idea of “One Perfect Baby and Maternity Boutique” came about when me and my husband both worked hard every day and were still struggling. I told myself something has to give, I proposed the idea of opening an business to him and we eventually took action.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO): Currently it is just me and my husband working and perfecting the business. It took us a while to both be on the same page, However we both share the passion of making this business a success.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to other children who want to become entrepreneurs?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO) :I would tell other children to take the Jump. I would tell them that it is not easy, but it will soon be worth it. I will also tell them to trust the process.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO): If I had the chance to start over, I would have took the jump sooner.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur ?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO): I think the number one skill would be to be a people’s person. The next skill I think is key would be to have some type of marketing skills. The third would be the skill of re-searchability.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO):I have had many failures, Not being persistent in marketing my business, not trusting the process, and at times losing hope. I have learned that in entrepreneurship you have to have tough skin and an open mind. I have learned to trust the process, and everything will be alright. I have also learned that no one is going to fight for your dream but you.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO):On an average my husband and I work about 11 hours or more.
Fashion Gxd Magazine: Describe/outline your typical day?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO) : A normal day for me would be waking up around 630 a.m., getting my son ready for school and dropping him off. I race home to see my husband off to work. I than browse my website for any discrepancies. I spend a few hours marketing my business and passing out business cards. Around 4p.m I head to the gym to workout. Then I go pick my son up meet my husband at the house. We sit down have dinner. Then me and my husband spend a few more hours on the business and going over marketing plans.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO):Being an entrepreneur has had a positive affect on my family life. It has brought me and my husband closer than we have ever been before. It provides extra income for us to save up for our son’s college fund.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO):Knowing that I have my own company and knowing the potential it has to enhance my life motivates me, but wanting better for my son is what motivates me the most. Waking up knowing that the decisions I make today will put him in a situation to have a much better life than I had growing up.
Fashion Gxd Magazine: How do you generate new ideas?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO): I generate new ideas by reading marketing books, studying those who came before me and those who are currently dominating there fields.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO): Going to the club, Drinking, spending time with family but the thing I have sacrificed the most is definitely S L E E P.
Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?
Ashley Thompkins (CEO): In the future I see myself and my business being very successful. I see us being one of the top baby store in the world
