Nichole Naom

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) :I went to Trinidad Carnival for my 30th birthday (last year) and got my makeup done for the first time. I fell in love with the colors, the costumes, the music, and the overall vibes. I just knew I wanted to start a makeup line that represented the essence of the Caribbean party culture.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) : The people in my organization are all family and close friends . I like to call it a family affair. From photo shoots to vendor events, I always have a family member or close friend by my side. My sister is even on the business cards.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to other children  who want to become entrepreneurs?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) :My advice would be 1. to accept the concept of sacrifice 2. focus on the effort you put in more than the reward you want at the end, and 3. trust yourself more than you trust anyone else. While advice is very necessary, what you want comes first.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) :If I started my career over, I would have started sooner. I would have done more volunteering, internships, and career shadowing. I would have also gotten a mentor and networked more aggressively.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur ?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) :The three skills are patience, logical thinking, and determination. My favorite phrase is "It's okay, just keep going."

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) :Some of my failures have been listening to others more than I listen to myself. On the flip side, not listening to others when I should have. I have missed out on certain opportunities, but i have also passed on things that were not worth my time.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) : I have a full time job plus my own business, so my working hours are whenever I'm not sleeping. I do social media promo before I get to work, during lunch, and when I get home. I answer emails during my lunch break and when I get home. My weekends are for vendor events and shipping orders.
Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) : My typical day consists of coming home from work, answering emails, and putting together promo packages. If I have a vendor event, I go through all my inventory and set up to make sure my booth's presentation is on point.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) : Being an entrepreneur has made my family life much closer. It's an amazing feeling to know who loves you and supports your
endeavors.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) : My motivation comes from how good people feel when they look good. Seeing people enjoy themselves being carefree and genuinely happy is why I do what I do. Even for me, singing my favorite song at the top of my lungs in a stunning lipstick just gives me such a natural high.

Fashion Gxd Magazine: How do you generate new ideas?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) : I generate new ideas from the annual musical events I follow and support. Every month and year something new and exciting is released. It gives me the inspiration to create a demand for my brand.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?

Nichole Naomi (CEO) : I love to travel and party, so it has been a huge sacrifice to not chase carnivals around the world like I want to. You quickly realize how to spend money more wisely when you are running a business, especially in the beginning stages.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?
Nichole Naomi (CEO) : In 10 years, I see Baseline Cosmetics as the go-to brand for all of your photo-op looks at every musical event you attend. The colors and product offerings will always push new boundaries and excite customers. In 20 years, I see myself running Baseline Cosmetics as a family oriented company with a team of dedicated employees.
