Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?

Marchel’e V. Davis… After I completed my Masters of Education, I decided to combine my education, and my true passion in the fashion world to educate others on “how to” when it comes to fashion.

My background in my earlier years in modeling, experimenting with clothing design, the love of the camera both in front and behind the camera, and, lastly, my true love to exude confidence through personal style, are all the foundation to how my business came into existence.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?

Marchel’e V. Davis…My team is comprised of those who believe in my vision, willing to work hard through challenging times, and have self-ambition in their own personal lives. I believe I am a good judge of character and only keep positive people in my inner circle; otherwise, I have no problem removing people from my life who will cause a hindrance to my overall goal.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to college students who want to become entrepreneurs?

Marchel’e V. Davis…Three pieces of advice I would offer college students include; 1.  Always stay motivated, and structure your life in a way to reach a goal that you have set for yourself. You are given one life, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR LIFE AS SOON AS YOU FIND YOU PURPOSE!

2. Be willing to sacrifice your time and money. Becoming an entrepreneur of any business venture you know money is required. Instead of seeking loans and gaining liabilities, save money, do not spend on frivolous, materialistic items to keep up with the Jones’. Now if you have it, flaunt it!! When you work hard, I believe in rewarding yourself. Grind hard, save money, gain assets.

3. Continue to educate and craft yourself. One of the most powerful types of learning is Self-Directed Learning. Self-Directed Learning includes educating yourself any way possible that is not through the structured educational system. This way is most effective because you seek to learn on your own with little to any guidance from others telling you “you must learn this.”

Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

Marchel’e V. Davis…If I had the chance to begin my career over, the one and only thing I would do is network with all those who have come into my life. My friends’ parents, school teachers, local businesses I frequent, etc. . . . I believe each person on this earth has a talent, and it’s up to you to explore and find yours. Use those talents in people around you.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Marchel’e V. Davis…To be a successful entrepreneur the top three skills needed areas follows; 1. Continue your education in your field of choice. I love fashion and follow designers, read magazines, people watch, and learn the business from all facets. 2. Do not chase the money. If you will choose a career that you are willing to do for free, you with most likely work hard, and trust and believe the money will follow. 3. Find a mentor in the business who you view as successful.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

Marchel’e V. Davis…I do not view anything in my career as a failure but, more of a challenge. One incident that stands out the most is being a control freak and needing my hands involved to complete each and every task, and going back behind others to check their work and progress. This is so time consuming, and has cost me financially. I now train those around me, and write out exactly what I need and expect. Results have definitely improved when communication is at its best.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?

Marchel’e V. Davis…My work week hours vary on the task. I average about 60 hours a week, and when I have photoshoots the days are even longer.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?

Marchel’e V. Davis…My day includes checking and responding to emails, checking my social media pages, continued marketing of my brand, internet surfing for fashion and style through Self-Directed Learning, shopping, drafting creative ideas, consulting others, reviewing images from photoshoots, the list goes on and on.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

Marchel’e V. Davis…I have a balance of family and business. I understand family is the foundation of who I am today and family comes first. Many times I have tried to involve my family members in my task, so it works out to everyone’s favor. When someone is feeling neglected, I reassure them it will pay off in the future for everyone.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?

Marchel’e V. Davis…My motivation stems from my belief that I have found my true reason for being on this Planet Earth. I absolutely love to make others feel good about themselves, able to walk into a room with confidence because of a look I created. To witness the changes that affect their lives because of my styling is such a reward.

Fashion Gxd Magazine: How do you generate new ideas?

Marchel’e V. Davis… I generate new ideas through travel, music, and everyday life. I find the joy in sitting in my backyard and watch the birds feed. I take the time to value and explore the small things nature has to offer. I create from what I see; my imagination and creative vision is like no other.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?

Marchel’e V. Davis… As a Personal and Wardrobe Stylist I have not sacrificed anything. I love what I do, and I enjoy the time I put in towards reaching my goal. I continue to follow my dreams and understand you may have to give up a little to get a little. But it is all worth it.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?

Marchel’e V. Davis… 10-20 years from now I will live to see the impact on greater society my personal styling, creative vision, innovative ideas and styling workshops has done for men and women of all ages. Building confidence through clothing to send a message intended, wearing clothing that flatters your body type, adding those accessories that bring a blank canvas to life, all will be a definition of Elements of Style by Marchel’e
