Fashion Gxd Magazine : How did the idea for your business come about?

FAB Boutique: I’ve always been a shopaholic and I’ve always had a love for fashion. Particularly, accessories were my favorite. I always felt that the perfect accessories bring an outfit to life. So one day I came up with the idea to start my own company selling jewelry. I figured if I’m going to spend money I might as well make it too.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do?

FAB Boutique: I don’t believe that I could ever find someone that truly cares about my company the way I do because I look at it as my baby. I always say I created it, birthed it, and now I’m raising it. It’s hard to find someone that will love it the way I do but the best way to tell if they have good intentions is off the energy they give.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What three pieces of advice would you give to college students who want to become entrepreneurs?

FAB Boutique: The three pieces of advice I would give aspiring entrepreneurs in college is: 1. Save your money & spend it wisely, 2. Have a plan but always be ready to adjust, & 3. Always believe in yourself and don’t quit even if no one else believes make the sacrifices and consistently put in the hard work it will pay off

Fashion Gxd Magazine :If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

FAB Boutique: Nothing. All the mistakes I made were lessons to get me where I Am now. All things good and bad happen for a reason. I took my mistakes, used them as lessons, and made better choices the next go round. All the choices I made are what got me to the point I Am at now and will help get me to where I’m meant to be.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

FAB Boutique: The top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur are: 1. Consistency2. Networking 3. Resources

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

FAB Boutique As a young entrepreneur I have made several mistakes. A huge mistake I have made is not knowing my market. Unless you have pure luck on your side it’s hard to buy or create a product to sell when you don’t know what target audience you’re selling it to. Another mistake I have made is buying too much of one product. This means that I had a product longer than what I needed and it was hard to sell after a while. It’s best to buy a few rather than a lot at first that way you can test the product to see how it will do with your customers. Another huge mistake I’ve made starting out is not knowing how to market and who to market my product to. Marketing is how you communicate with the customer who you are and what you have to sell. I thought at first the customers would just come to me. When I realized that they weren’t I tried to sell my product to just anybody. I actually ended up wasting a lot of my time with people who just weren’t interested. I was unprepared and marketing to the wrong audience.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How many hours do you work a day on average?

FAB Boutique: On a typical day from the time I wake up to the time I drift off to sleep.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :Describe/outline your typical day?

FAB Boutique A typical day for me is getting up four o’clock in the morning checking business emails and getting ready for work. During my work shift (which is usually 8-10 hours) I’m jotting down things I need to do, coming up with new ideas, and promoting my brand on every break on social networks. After work I’m checking business emails, networking, and promoting still.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

FAB Boutique: Being an entrepreneur hasn’t really had much of an effect on my family life as it has on my social life. I’ve lost a few “friends” due to my busy schedule. I take my brand very seriously and with success comes sacrifices. One of the sacrifices was my social life and not being able to chill and go out with my friends as much as they would like. Some understand and they support me and others they’re just not around anymore.

Fashion Gxd Magazine :What motivates you?

FAB Boutique: What motivates me is my unborn seeds. I want to be able to provide my children with everything they need. If they have a dream I want to be able to have the financial resources to be able to support them. My mother Anita Griggs motivates me because she has made so many sacrifices for me and my family and I just want to be able to give her the best and give her all that she has given me in return. My grandmother Virginia Griggs motivates me because no matter what I’m going through in life she always lets me know that she is in my corner and she is my biggest cheerleader. She always encourages me and fills me up with positivity. I told her when I was nine years old I was going to buy her a house and I still owe her a house that she will get. The last thing that motivates me is myself. I’ve come up against a lot of things in life and I realized when I was fresh in my 20s that the only thing stopping me from achieving the things I want to achieve is me. I feel that I deserve everything I work hard for. So every year I push myself to raise the standards of my goals and to work hard to achieve it. Success won’t happen if you don’t believe in yourself.

Fashion Gxd Magazine:How do you generate new ideas?

FAB Boutique: How I generate new ideas is I pull from the things around me that inspire me, motivate me, or are intriguing. I might see something that has nothing to do with fashion and I can associate it in some way to fashion. Everything is connected in the universe so I just use one idea to pull from the next.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?

FAB Boutique: There are several sacrifices I’ve had to make to be a successful entrepreneur. One of the sacrifices is my social life. As I stated earlier not everyone will understand what you are working to achieve but keep going anyways the ones who are meant to stay will stay. Another sacrifice that I had to make to be a successful entrepreneur is my beauty rest. I love sleep but when it comes down to get a few extra hours of sleep or stay up to work on something for my brand I’ll make that sacrifice. Also, my wallet has had to make a sacrifice as well. When starting a business or dealing with a business in the early stages you need every penny you can get. So instead of ordering out I would eat at home. Or instead of buying those shoes I wanted I would save my money instead. It’s not easy but so far every sacrifice has been worth it.

Fashion Gxd Magazine : Where you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?

FAB Boutique: In 10 years I see myself owning a couple of other businesses other than just FAB Boutique. I see FAB Boutique as not only an online boutique but also as a physical shop in select cities. 20 years??? I haven’t thought that far yet but I’m willing to adjust.
