Fashion Gxd Magazine : What is your favorite aspect of being an journalist ?

Marsha Badger : I truly enjoy being a source of information. Whether it's the scoop on how to find a hot item for less or a celebrity's new fashion campaign, I feel great knowing that I can provide that information for my readers.

FGM: what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?

MB: The most important decision I've ever made is to never give up. Sounds cliche, but I learned to never let a "no" deter you from pursuing your dreams. Man's "no" can never compare to God's "YES."

FGM:What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful Fashion Blogger ?

MB: Consistency! Believe it or not, consistency is a skill! You have to be consistent with your content. Once you develop a blogging schedule, stick to it. You never know who is secretly (and openly) keeping up with your blog.

Editing. Some people blog for leisure and others for profession. If blogging is your profession, it is important to have your work edited! When you read reputable blogs like Fashion Bomb Daily, there are zero grammatical errors. Editing is key to a professional blog.

Uniqueness. There are billions of fashion bloggers but only one of you. Remain true to yourself, your personal style and writing style. That is what will make you stand out amongst the crowd.

FGM: What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

MB: I don't know that I've had any failures yet. I've been rejected tons of times. I guess that can be considered a failure. To me, rejection isn't a bad thing. I have complete faith that what is for me can't be taken away from me. If I am rejected from an opportunity that I want, I consider that for some reason, it wasn't best for me. I learn where I can improve and then I move forward.

FGM: What ignited the spark in you to start a entrepreneur venture or to pursue your career?

MB: I am a free thinker. The thought of listening to other people tell me what to do while making them money puts me in a depressing state of mind. Although I am currently working for a non-profit organization, my goal is to transition into running my blog full time. My spark was always there, but got ignited when I realized that I needed more out of life. I need to fulfill my dreams. I need to tell my story and be a testimony to those who want to pursue their dreams but are held back by fear.

FGM: Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful Blogger / journalist ?

MB: If there is a pattern or formula then I need to learn what it is! I think 2 of the biggest things you need to become a successful blogger are dedication and faith. Dedicate your time; what you put in, is what you'll get out of it. Have faith in your journey; it may not look promising but giving up should never be an option.

FGM: To what do you most attribute your success? What would say are the five key elements for being a successful journalist / Fashion Blogger ?

MB: My success thus far is thanks to God. He seems to consistently put me in the right place at the right time. He has connected me to amazing people who have provided me with great opportunities.

5 key elements would be-

Engaging your audience- Interact with your social media followers. Answer their questions, thank them for their compliments, be in constant communication with them. They are the reason you've become successful. Show them your appreciation.

Consistency- Provide consistent content for your readers. Blogging once every 2 months does not make you a blogger. You will lose your audience if you're not consistent.

Empowerment Circle- It is important to have a circle of friends who have similar goals as yourself. They're more understanding of the professional struggles you will endure and they will be a great support system for you. They are going to be the ones that help connect you to other opportunities.

Professionalism- Remain professional! I try to keep my page away from controversy. My mission is to uplift women, not shame them because I don't agree with what they're wearing. Do not engage with followers who leave rude comments on your page. Simply delete them. Do not make rude post to your followers, they're your road to success.

Support other businesses- It is beyond important to support the network of people who are doing the same things you are. If they're having an event, attend it. If they're selling a product, purchase it. Collaborate when you can and support when you can.

FGM: What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

MB: I have so many! Here are my top 3. I attended the Stella McCartney Spring 2016 presentation and got to meet and hang with Alicia Keys. My write-up for an event was featured on Fashion Bomb Daily. Marie Claire reposted a video I recorded of Nina Garcia to their website.

Inspiration

FGM: If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why?

MB: Tupac! People thought of him as a thug but he was actually very gentle and passionate. I'd love to know what he thinks about what is happening in our world today.

FGM: Who has been your greatest inspiration?

MB: Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily. I recently interviewed her for my blog and she is completely humble and down to earth.

FGM: What book has inspired you the most? (OR What is your favorite book?)

MB: The Power of your Subconscious Mind. Great book that provides guidance on how to control your thoughts to get the best out of life.

FGM:What motivates you?

MB: Success. I am motivated by the idea of successfully accomplishing every goal that I make for myself.

FGM: What three pieces of advice would you give to individuals wishing to get into journalism/ Fashion Blogging ?

MB: Remain dedicated. Don't be deterred by rejection. Be consistent.

FGM: What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?

MB: My greatest fear is remaining in the same place. No progression in my career scares me! I manage that by setting new goals for myself.

FGM: How do you define success?

MB: Success to me is accomplishing everything I aspire to do and be. Success doesn't mean being well-known or having the most money. For me its checking off tasks on my "career bucket list."

FGM: What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

MB: This is something I am learning. I would say you can achieve long-term success by keeping your audience fully engaged. They're your paychecks. Without viewers, subscribers, readers, buyers of your brand, you have no one to market to. Keep them satisfied and you will be successful.

FGM: If you could have given yourself a piece of knowledge or advice when you started what would that be? Which opportunities should you have followed; what pitfalls would you have avoided?

MB: Be more vocal! Network! This business is not for the shy. You have to be memorable and you can't be memorable if you're busy being a wall flower. Thus far, I have no regrets or pitfalls. I take everything as a learning experience rather than a regret. If encountered with a pit fall I ask myself, "What did I learn from this unfortunate experience?"

FGM: What is a Inspiring Woman To You ?

MB: Inspiring women to me is showing them that ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. With faith, you can achieve EVERYTHING! Your limit is not the sky. There are no limits. Instead of defaulting to the idea that things won't happen for you, prepare yourself for when they do.

FGM: What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?

MB: I am a reality tv junkie. I also really love online shopping. I can do it in my sleep.
