FGM: It’s an honor to sit down with you today. Tell us a little about yourself and how you’ve come to this vastly successful peek in your career?
FGM: How do you feel you make a difference in the world?
Antoinette Fernandez: Very simple. I treat people right. Our words and actions leave a lasting impression on those who come and go in our lives. So it’s important for me to treat people how I want to be treated.
FGM: Tell us about a time when you showed determination to continue as an filmmaker?
Antoinette Fernandez: Oh man, 2020 really took my breath away with covid and I was depressed. I was used to traveling to New York every weekend and now the world stopped. I felt like quitting.
Until I saw Tammy Reese online making things happening for herself during the pandemic. It was so inspiring to see her remain positive and not give up even in these unfortunate times. It was like a sign for me to keep going. So I began studying, and writing. I wrote 3 more projects in addition to “Still Got The Juice” and the rest is the result of not giving up.
FGM: What are some best qualities a screenwriter must have?
Antoinette Fernandez: Drive, patience and a positive attitude. No one wants to work with someone who is not receptive to being a team player.
FGM: Being a woman in film is a 24/7 job, how did you get ready for that?
Antoinette Fernandez: I come from a family of strong women. I carry myself in a positive professional way and I walk around with a positive mindset. I am very confident in the value I can add with whomever I am working with.
FGM: Which current public figure, are you inspired by or appreciate the most?
Antoinette Fernandez: So many people inspire me …. But I will say Oprah Winfrey and here’s why… So many people give her such a bad rep.. however she came from nothing, built an empire and gave back. She is a human being; she's not supposed to be perfect. Her words helped me in my darkest hours. Maya Angelou said this to Oprah but Oprah had said this at a time I needed it he most… “ When people show you who they are — BELIEVE THEM.
FGM: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? How do you plan to get there?
Antoinette Fernandez: In ten years hmmmm — the way things are going it may be sooner than 10 years lol. Being an established filmmaker and taking care of some of my loved ones. I plan to get there by continuing to use the formula I am currently using so please stay tuned.
FGM: What advice would you give to aspiring filmmakers?
Antoinette Fernandez:
1.Set a daily goal for writing.
2. Do your research on the genre you're writing about. If it’s Sci-Fi, etc ..read up on it. Read different scripts from other writers, and watch plenty of films. This will help you with creating a unique story of your own.
3. Polish your skills- You’re never too old to continue learning. If I am not taking a class that pertains to filmmaking.. I am reading a book. Also, watch YouTube how to do seminars.
FGM: It was a pleasure speaking with you thank you for joining us
Antoinette Fernandez: I am very honored to have spoken with you as well.
