FGM: Its an honor to sit down with you all. Tell us a little about your brand and how you've come to this vastly successful peek in your career.
Answer: First, I would like to say it's an honor and blessing to have this opportunity! I started my clothing brand back in February 2018 and have been growing since then. My brand is called "Born 2 Win" for a reason, and that's because each and everyone of us, no matter the race, gender, or sexuality, we are BORN 2 WIN. And I feel it is my duty to let everyone out there know! I have reached this point of success in my career by keeping God first and hardwork, but I know I have so much to learn and a lot of growing to do!
FGM: Who are the clients/what are the projects that you most enjoy working on?
Answer: My target audience is the world, and that's because I believe everybody out there is destined to win no matter your circumstances. The projects I enjoy working the most on are new designs that are in the process of being released for the brand. It gets me excited every time seeing a new design come to life. And I make the majority of my merchandise from home, so seeing that new design on a hoodie or shirt brings me excitement and a sense of accomplishment.
FGM: How do you feel you make a difference in the world?
Answer: I feel like I make a difference in the world by motivating others they are BORN 2 WIN. There are a lot of people that lack motivation or think so little of themselves, and have no type of support in their corner. So me being able to let them know they are Born 2 Win, and it actually means something to them, it brings a great feeling inside me! Me letting a person know they are Born 2 Win can be the little spark that ignites the flame they were needing in their life.
FGM: Tell us about a time when you showed determination to continue as an entrepreneur.
Answer: There was a period of time in my life when I was struggling, even with having the clothing brand! So that resulted in me not being able to invest into my brand because of bills and etc. I ended up getting another job at Amazon. Once I started working there, that's where most of my time and energy went. It got to a point where I was feeling so tired and overwhelmed. Even when I needed to make stuff for the brand, I had no drive to get it done. Then one day I woke up to go to work and something just came over me, saying I need to take a leap of faith and put my all into my brand. And that's what I did and I didn't look back ever since.
FGM: Give me the three best qualities of your brand?
Answer: The top quality of my brand is the message behind the name. The message speaks for itself, you are BORN 2 WIN!! Another great quality is the quality of the clothing itself. I take a lot of pride in making sure the clothes feel good on the skin, look good, fits right, and will look the same after a wash. Lastly, when you wear Born 2 Win, you will feel more confident wherever you go or what you are doing.
FGM: Give me an example of when you worked irregular hours?
Answer: This was around the time I first started my clothing brand, I had my first pop-up shop to attend at a high school. So I ordered 100 shirts, but waited until the last minute to get them done. I had to work all day before, and through the night to get these shirts done. Even after I finished the shirts, I still had to fold and bag them up. If I didn't have my mom there to help me, I probably wouldn't have finished in time for the pop-up shop!
FGM: Being a entrepreneur is a 24/7 job, how did you get ready for that?
Answer: Before becoming a full time entrepreneur, I already had my brand established. So when it came time to take that leap of faith and leave Amazon, my mindset was already locked on entrepreneurship! Once resigning from Amazon, it allowed me to lock in and put as much time as I needed into my brand.
FGM: How did you acquire the ability to work under pressure to beat/meet deadlines as a entrepreneur?
Answer: As an entrepreneur, I learned the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines is by staying organized and planning ahead. I learned that entrepreneurship is mainly planning, preparation, and being on top of your game. Once I learned those traits, I was able to cut that pressure in meeting deadlines.
FGM: What is your favorite inspirational point, place, to develop new brand developments?
Answer: My favorite inspirational point is being around other clothing brand owners because it motivates me to better my brand. My favorite inspirational place to develop new brand ideas is home by myself. I am able to zone in and focus on these new ideas and bring my creations to life.
FGM: Which current public figure, are you inspired by or appreciate the most?
Answer: The current public who inspires me goes by Kool Kiy. He's my inspiration because he is a black business owner with a brand that grows every single day. But what really drew my attention, is that he has his own warehouse and manufactures all of the clothing for his brand. That's what really gave me the mindset to cut out the middleman and do as much I can myself. From that alone, it allows me to learn new things and gives me the desire to expand on what I already know.
FGM: How do you handle stress?
Answer: I handle stress by trying not to stress out as much as possible. I always try to keep a positive mindset no matter the situation, and push away any negativity. But if a situation gets too stressful for me, I just pray and leave it in God's hands.
FGM: What are the three qualities you feel an entrepreneur must have?
Answer: A top quality I feel an entrepreneur must have is motivation. I say that because if he/she isn't motivated then the business will never grow the way that person expects it to. Another quality I feel an entrepreneur should have is persistency. When you are persistent, you will be able to pick yourself up and keep going, even after failure. Lastly, I believe entrepreneurs must have the quality of creative thinking because they should always be looking into new ways to grow and expand the business.
FGM: Where do you see your business in 10 years? How do you plan to get there?
Answer: In 10 years, I see my brand on a global scale. I plan on getting there by keeping God first and working very hard. I have already been reaching out to public figures and traveling a little to bring more awareness to the brand. I will always focus on growing my brand in every area. But to get to where I see myself in 10 years, I will have to continue putting in hard work, being consistent and being the best me I can be.
FGM: It was a pleasure speaking with you thank you for joining us
Answer: It was an honor, thank you guys again for the opportunity!!
