FGM: Its an honor to sit down with you all. Tell us a little about your brand and how you've come to this vastly successful peek in your career.
Answer: Today, I feel incredibly blessed to have been given the opportunity to sit down with you. My name is SHAKIYAH GRAVENHISE I’m from Brooklyn NY, I am a licensed esthetician as well as the owner of KHLOÈ BELLA— an all-natural skin care brand based in New York. Today, I’m proud to have created a natural and sophisticated line of products designed to perfect the skin. Our natural ingredients are carefully chosen and crafted together with love so each cleanser, exfoliant toner, oil serum or whipped body butter can bring its full power right to your skin. I credit much of my success to my persistent faith that if I worked hard enough, any dream could come true. That dedication to my career has led me this far, and I'm very proud of what I’ve already achieved. Along the way, however, it has taken many long hours and even more miraculous moments for me to get here. But every single moment was worth it, and I look forward to continuing my success in the years ahead.
FGM: Who are the clients/what are the projects that you most enjoy working on?
Answer: Providing quality services to all genders and ethnicities between the ages 21 and older is a passion that I am committed to fulfilling. My specialty is corrective skincare for those with multicultural skin issues, as well as Brazilian waxing. However, the service that brings me the most joy is facial treatments. Watching the transformation of a clients face after each service makes me feel so fulfilled because I know that I am making a difference in somebody’s life. I believe that my clients also experience something unexplainable after each treatment – they can finally see why they invested their time and money into taking care of themselves -because when you look good, you feel good too! And my goal is always to have my clients leave feeling better than when they came in.
FGM: How do you feel you make a difference in the world?
Answer: As a skincare professional, I strive to make a difference in the world one client at a time by addressing their skin concerns. Everyone deserves to have confidence in their own skin, and it is my mission to help provide real results that last. By helping people feel good about themselves, I believe I can bring more happiness and positivity into this world. It's amazing what a dramatic impact quality skincare can have on self-esteem. Every time I see the joy come back into someone's eyes once they've achieved their goals for beautiful, smooth skin, it reminds me of why I do what I do. My clients leave feeling that much better about themselves — happier people taking part in life, with greater confidence about their looks. Together we are making the world just a little bit brighter every day!
Tell us about a time when you showed determination to continue as an entrepreneur
Answer: As a single mom, there are tremendous hurdles to overcome when trying to achieve professional success. Not only must I manage the incessant demands of everyday life, but also keep a full-time career and juggle any number of extra commitments. When I chose to pursue my dream of becoming an esthetician in the beauty industry, I added another layer of complexity to my life. With a seemingly overwhelming number of tasks on my plate, it was difficult to maintain motivation and focus while continuing to work full time as an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic and provide necessary care for my daughter. However, rather than let exhaustion sap away what little energy I had left, I chose to use this period as a learning opportunity. To succeed at something great requires dedication and hard work, no matter how long it may take or how difficult the journey may be - important lessons that will help me not just in business but many aspects of life. So despite moments where I wanted nothing more than to give up, my drive pushed me forward until I achieved my goal. And now with the foundation set for growth and expansion, I'm looking forward with anticipation for what’s to come in the future.
FGM: Give me the three best qualities of your brand.
Integrity, authenticity, superb customer service.
FGM: Give me a example when you worked irregular hours? As a humble entrepreneur , I dreamed of hosting my own pop up shop event in Brooklyn. This goal seemed daunting once the pandemic hit. There was so much preparation involved - gathering product to display, stocking the store I owned at the time , marketing and promoting the event - on top of assisting the vendors to ensure we all had everything we need. The week prior was especially difficult; I dedicated every hour of my days (sometimes more) to preparing for the event. Despite feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, I pushed through by maintaining an organized schedule, and setting achievable goals. By following my own advice & staying motivated, I had the great pleasure of experiencing the successful completion of my first annual pop-up shop!
FGM: Being a entrepreneur is a 24/7 job, how did you get ready for that?
Answer: Each morning when I wake up I start my day by offering a prayer and expressing gratitude for all that I have in life. followed by an exchange of positive affirmations with my daughter; we encourage each other to be our best self. During times of struggle, I pause and remind myself not to worry because everything will fall in place at the right time when it’s meant to.
FGM: How did you acquire the ability to work under pressure to beat meet deadlines as a entrepreneur?
Personally, I don't usually work well when the clock is ticking because I tend to become very focused on the task at hand and block out everything else around me. What I find usually happens when I come to a deadline is that my mind begins to race – ideas flow more quickly and my thoughts become increasingly loud – which doesn't work well when attempting to remain focused on one task.
FGM: What is your favorite inspirational point, place, to develop new brand developments?
Answer: For some strange reason my ideas come to me when I’m sleeping or driving in silence.
FGM: Which current public figure, are you inspired by or appreciate the most?
Answer: Milano has been a great source of inspiration to me, especially when times get tough. Watching her incredible career growth and learning her heartfelt story have become my biggest motivation when it matters most. Seeing how far she's come and how much she's conquered truly reminds me that with hard work, dedication, and clever decisions, I can achieve anything I set my mind to.
FGM:how do you handle stress?
Answer: I believe I handle stress quite well, not just because of my own experiences but also by observing many others in similar situations. In my day-to-day life, I have learned to practice preventative measures and take time to assess a situation before it becomes overwhelming. This includes avoiding stressful situations altogether. When the inevitable stressors arise, I take a step back and pray for guidance on how to appropriately respond - never react. Then, I try to reflect on what is causing the problem without letting my emotions cloud my judgement too much. This helps me look at different angles and find creative solutions
FGM: What are the three qualities you feel an entrepreneur must have?
Answer: integrity, resilience, confidence
FGM: Where do you see your business in 10 years? How do you plan to get there?
Answer: In the next ten years, my goal is to establish a recognizable global brand, with a successful flagship store in New York City and an esteemed esthetics school.
To achieve this ambition, I have crafted and committed to a detailed plan that outlines both the long-term strategy and daily tasks needed to make it a reality. This includes setting realistic deadlines and evaluating how my resources are being used in order to ensure that none of them are going to waste or standing between me and my goal. I also must enforce strict self-discipline; any distraction or setback must be quickly addressed so that I can keep moving forward towards my goal.
FGM: It was a pleasure speaking with you thank you for joining us. I want to thank you once again for having me.– it was such an honor and a privilege to be part of your interview . I enjoyed speaking with you.
